The New Animated Series' Opening Sequence Selected the Incorrect Popular RPG Show Track
This latest animated series, the most recent animated series from Critical Role, unveiled an exciting introductory sequence. It showcases the beloved cast of misfits, misfits, and criminals fighting hard and making their mark, while teasing at multiple heart-wrenching personal histories for key figures such as the voice actor's wizard Caleb, and another actor's orc warlock, Fjord.
Overall, the intro looks amazing. But I couldn't help feeling that something was missing in the music selection.
The intro employs "Welcome to Wildemount", an exceptional song created by producer and singer the talented musician. This piece from the soundtrack album of that title, the second one released by the production company's music division Scanlan Shorthalt Music. It's a great sentimental option, and I believe that fans of the sequel series will love its presence.
Personally, The Mighty Nein's opening fails to capture the excitement and energy that accompanied the second campaign's actual-play adventure. "Your Turn to Roll", composed by singer-songwriter Jason Charles Miller, was an instant classic for me when it was first revealed in that year, and it improved further when cast member Sam Riegel added lyrics to the tune for the animated Campaign 2 opening in the later year.
Featuring vocals from one actress, another performer, a co-star, as well as the writer, the track was memorable and fun. Back then, I hadn't seen the second campaign at that point, but it was so infectious that I kept it on my device. It's a song that excites you before you start an episode of fantasy hijinks.
The Mighty Nein's opening with "the new song" doesn't strike the right notes for me. It's a grand composition, but from what I know of this party, I feel that its mood is a little off.
Of course, Critical Role has already said that the animated show will have some changes and differences from the actual-play campaign. An adjusted mood for its intro appears as one of them.
This animated adventure will be released on Prime Video from November 19. If you can't wait before that, or wish to prepare to get to know the characters of Critical Role's Campaign 2, the original episodes are accessible on Spotify and YouTube.
