The former Liverpool manager admits rejoining to lead Liverpool is conceivable.
Jurgen Klopp, who departed from Liverpool in 2024, indicated that a future comeback is a possibility. Klopp, post a game-changing nine-year spell which brought a European Cup triumph and the Reds’ first league title since 1990, currently occupies positions overseeing worldwide football with the Red Bull group and in an advisory capacity for the DFL.
Supporters’ Hopes and Klopp’s Candid Remarks
Liverpool won the Premier League in the previous campaign, though countless followers who revere Klopp would welcome the notion that he may eventually return. Speaking candidly, he told Steven Bartlett: “I said I refuse to lead another team on English soil. Therefore should it be the Reds...yes. It's plausible.”
“Being 58, that means the choice could be mine down the line, I don’t know. Must I choose now? If so, I wouldn't return. But thank God, it's not necessary. I can just see how things unfold.”
Conditions for a Comeback
Questioned regarding what circumstances would have to unfold to bring him back to management, Klopp admitted he was not instantly drawn for a comeback. “It's unclear to me, I enjoy my current role,” he commented. “I don't crave being a coach; I don’t miss standing under bad weather through long matches; I don’t miss going to interviews four times, three times a week or doing numerous chats a week.
“No nostalgia for the changing area in that context, however, dining out with the players talking freely, that’s nice. With many victories thus frequently great spirits in the building. I can still hear the captain's chuckle in my ear to illustrate.”
Commending Arne Slot
Klopp was full of praise of the current boss, crediting him for the adjustments that won the league last campaign. The team has suffered a string of losses across various tournaments post heavy investment, yet he dismissed the notion that it might signal a decline.
“[Liverpool have] an incredible striker such as Wirtz, doubters will be silenced if you use the wrong words. He’s an incredible talent. Ekitike, incredible player. They have a strong well-judged squad. No need for concern regarding the Reds, they will be fine.”
Emotional Tribute for the Late Forward
He shared movingly regarding the passing of Diogo Jota, whom he brought in during his tenure, along with the consequences at the club. The Portugal international was killed in a road accident alongside his brother recently.
“How do you replace somebody like Diogo? It’s not about the player himself, his personality mattered. It's hard to picture the dressing room missing him. I still cannot speak properly about it. It was an incredible shock for his teammates also. Not a single person will ever use it to justify results but it is the situation. You walk in a dressing room where he was omnipresent. Handling this on a personal level is challenging. Overwhelming.”
