Slot Insists He Is Safe and Retains Liverpool's Backing After PSV Loss

The Liverpool head coach conceded that it was understandable for doubts to be asked about his position after another convincing loss versus PSV Eindhoven.

Liverpool endured their ninth loss in 12 matches, representing the club's poorest run after being relegated in 1953-54.

They were dominated by the Eredivisie champions on a difficult evening at Anfield.

“I'm confident, I'm fine, I've received significant backing from above,” the coach stated.

“It would be nice to turn it around and get a victory of course but if you are in a managerial role and not doing well then it's typical that questions are asked.”

He added, “I'm comfortable with my position. It is not the initial instance I’ve been in a difficult position but it is about time that we changed our fortunes.”

Discussions with Liverpool Hierarchy

When asked to provide details on his conversations with the club's leadership, the head coach explained:

“We communicate frequently. They are supportive for the squad and to me and those talks happen but they don't phone me every single minute of the day to say they trust me.”

He further stated, “Through standard conversations we have I sense the belief. However I've not talked to them since this game so far so let’s see.”

Recurring Problems and Player Reaction

Slot expressed regret over known weaknesses from his Liverpool side in their Champions League defeat, specifically missed opportunities and conceding too easily.

Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was more direct in his view of the club’s predicament.

“I haven't got the solutions. Frankly, I do not. I’m saying that to everybody,” Jones stated.

“It’s just not good enough. I don’t even need to wait to consider it. I’m past being angry internally. I’m at the point currently where I just don’t have the vocabulary.”

He went on, “It’s hard because I play for the side I follow. I’m a fan, and I've watched Liverpool all my life.”

“For many years, I haven’t experienced a Reds side enduring a spell like this with results so bad.”

He concluded, “However we still have the crest on our chest. And as long as that badge is gone, we’re always going to fight.”

“Our aim is to bring this squad return to the top, demonstrate to all once more the values of this club and the reason it's called the top club in the world.”

“But right now, we're in trouble and it needs to change.”
