The speculation around the recent awards show reached a fever pitch, particularly after host Geoff Keighley posted a puzzling photo of a strange statue. The mystery has now been solved. The acclaimed developer is creating a fresh Divinity game.
Titled simply Divinity, the game was debuted with a bold trailer featuring intense imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to an orgy and the very unleashing of hell.
A Different Direction
Anyone anticipating Divinity Original Sin 3, this is not that. Larian stated ahead of time that a third Original Sin game to its critically acclaimed RPGs is not currently in development.
Nevertheless, the developer described this new Divinity as a next chapter of the main series. This phrasing implies that the team could be crafting a more action-oriented experience as opposed to another tactical title. For now, we can only guess, as only a announcement clip is available.
What Makes Divinity Special
The Divinity series is universally respected and arguably it kicked off the contemporary revival of deep computer role-playing games. These games are known for rich lore, player agency, and complex character building—elements that recently found massive success in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its setting is familiar fare, what makes Divinity apart is the unprecedented level of trust bestowed upon the player.
While numerous modern RPGs have pared back options, Divinity is packed with niche playthroughs that are viable by choosing a particular class or origin with a specific history of choices.
The series is also notoriously open-ended, letting players to experiment in narrative and gameplay. Nearly every quest can be approached in multiple ways, often in lateral fashion.
- You might find an answer because you heeded something a dog told you.
- Or, you could bypass a challenge by using the world itself in a unorthodox way.
