Ex UK Serviceman Accused of Killing Kenyan Female Shows Up in Courtroom

An individual has appeared in court as deportation processes began in the legal matter of the victim Agnes Wanjiru, a Kenyan woman who was murdered near a British army base in the year 2012.

The accused Robert Purkiss, 38 years old, who is a native of Greater Manchester region, showed up in Westminster magistrates court on the last Friday, and informed the court he would challenge the extradition request. Sources suggest that he was arrested on Thursday evening.

A detention order for Purkiss was authorized by a court in Nairobi in the month of September. Legal prosecutors informed the Kenyan judiciary that the individual had been accused of a single count, of homicide, and that the Kenyan authorities would request his deportation to stand trial.

Purkiss was once employed as a army medic with the Duke of Lancaster’s Regiment, the infantry regiment for the north-west of England, including on missions to Afghanistan.

Agnes Wanjiru, 21 years old, a hairdresser who had a young daughter, disappeared after a evening out, and her remains was found 60 days later in the grounds of the accommodation where she had most recently observed.

Nobody had earlier been detained or accused in connection to her passing. Purkiss’s arrest was the result of a fresh police investigation, which followed a article in the year 2021 by a weekly publication, in which the media outlet contacted several current and former soldiers in the military group.

The investigation has been spearheaded by detectives in Kenya, which, under a bilateral security treaty, holds legal authority in the legal case.
