England to Start Euro 2028 Journey at the Etihad Stadium

The England national team will embark on their Euro 2028 journey at the Manchester City’s stadium, provided that they attain the relatively straightforward passage for a competition taking place in the majority of the UK and the Ireland.

City’s stadium has not welcomed an English men’s game since the spring of 2016, when the visitors were defeated 2-1 in a friendly, but is almost certain to stage the national team for their opening fixture on June 10, 2028.

England are set to play their last two group stage games at Wembley Stadium, but, in the event of winning Group B, their knockout stage opener would take place at St James’ Park. Placing second would mean commencing the knockouts at Everton’s Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Championship Launch and Rally

The championship was inaugurated at an event in Piccadilly Circus on Wednesday evening. High-ranking officials from European football’s governing body and the organizing bodies were confronted as they arrived the site by approximately 50 activists, who demanded Israel’s national side to be expelled from global football because of the Gaza crisis.

Placards were displayed with phrases reading “Show Israel the red card” and “You are complicit”, while demonstrators chanted: “Kick Israel out.”

Event Fixture List

The first match of the tournament will be played at the Cardiff’s stadium in the Welsh capital, on Friday 9 June, a match that will include the Dragons if they make it.

Wembley Stadium will host both semi-finals and the final, which will be staged on a Sunday in July 2028 with a start time at late afternoon.

It is expected that an afternoon start, which will also be adopted for European club finals from the following campaign, will cater to families and help connect with a more diverse set of audiences.

Host Nations

The Irish team are due to play their initial fixture at the Aviva Stadium and the Tartan Army would play similarly at the national stadium of Scotland.

All four host countries’ teams will enter the qualification process; two automatic spots will be reserved for any that fail to qualify for the tournament through the standard process.

Locations and Playoffs

The Birmingham venue and Tottenham Hotspur Stadium complete the nine tournament locations. Each one will hold at least one elimination game, with the quarter-finals staged at every host’s main arena.

The qualifying draw will be conducted in the Northern Irish capital, which was dropped as a host city last year when it emerged Casement Park could not be upgraded in time, on December 6, 2026.

Official Statement

“This will be a competition for the followers and a showcase of everything we love about the game – its passion and power to foster unity.”

More than three million tickets, a record for a Euro tournament, are expected to be made available to supporters.
