Brian Eno Encourages Backing to Send Together for Palestine Lullaby to UK Christmas No 1.
A fundraising initiative is aiming to send a Palestinian lullaby to the peak of the festive singles chart. The campaign seeks to provide aid to Gaza's residents while also showcasing Palestinian culture and creativity.
A Possibility for Unity and an "Chart Upset"
Renowned figure Brian Eno, who performs on the track, stated that the release called 'Lullaby' represents a opportunity to stand with Palestinians this festive season. He noted the potential for an unlikely festive coup.
“It would be fantastic if that came to pass, yes,” he stated. “I’m not gonna be completely disheartened if it fails to, festive releases are a unique phenomenon.”
Powerful Theme of Dignity and Freedom
Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who sings on the adaptation of a traditional lullaby called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the track's resilient spirit.
“It has a profound significance for countless listeners,” Barghouti said. “The essence is that I would prefer a dignified death than spend my life without freedom. That’s the main theme of the song; we seek to lead a dignified life that we merit as a people.”
Recording Origins and Contributing Musicians
The track was produced following a solidarity show held in late summer. Originally intended to be done as a live recording, the performance was omitted from the lengthy event due to time constraints.
The notable list of artists featured on Lullaby features a selection of well-known figures from the music world. All were part of the earlier concert, which managed to collect a significant sum for charitable causes.
Creation and Launch
Lullaby was brought to life by a group of producers and composers. The single blends a combination of the traditional Arabic lyrics with freshly written English words.
The team running the campaign have stated that their goal is to generate maximum funds for a dedicated fund. These proceeds will be channeled to Palestinian causes through an established charity.
“We don’t have a rigid aim,” a spokesperson commented. “We aim for as much as possible. Naturally, the higher the total, the greater the impact. All proceeds are directed out to Gaza.”
The context in the area was described as its profound destruction, with a overwhelming percentage of property reportedly destroyed or damaged.
“In that context, a few million won't make an enormous impact. But I think what truly matters is above all raising awareness for this issue and showing the human dimension of the story.”
The track is launching this Friday. Additionally, a full recording of the benefit event will be made ready to watch on a digital service from later in the month.
