Both Deceased Students Identified in the Ivy League School Shooting as Police Press On With Search for Perpetrator.

The pair of scholars who were killed in the recent mass shooting in Providence were honored at the start of the week – while an intensive search for their shooter carried on following the release by Rhode Island officials of the sole person questioned in the case.

Honoring a Lost Student

The young woman Ella Cook, a second-year student from Alabama, was described as “a wonderful, steady, devout, shining presence”, as stated by the Advent Cathedral in Birmingham, which honored her memory at a gathering on Sunday.

Cook was vice-president of Brown’s division of the campus GOP group, as the club stated. Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt also shared sympathies on social media, saying in part: “Words cannot express. Thinking of her family and friends, above all her mom and dad.”

An International Student

The other person killed was MukhammadAziz Umurzokov, from Uzbekistan in his initial year at the Ivy League university, family members said.

His name was verified by the Uzbek Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

“He was exceptionally gentle, witty, and bright. He had big dreams of entering the field of neurosurgery and assisting patients,” his sibling Samira said in a online post.

What Happened

Nine more persons were injured in the violent event in the engineering department of Brown’s university in Providence, during the school’s final exam period.

Officials stated late Sunday that a man aged 24 taken into custody in a raid at a hotel about 17 miles from the scene earlier in the day was released from custody.

“We have a murderer out there,” said Rhode Island’s attorney general, Peter Neronha.

He added, “Investigations can lead one way, and then you have to regroup and head another way, and that’s exactly what has happened over the last approximately one day.”

Ongoing Concerns

The city's mayor, Brett Smiley, acknowledged: “It is expected to provoke renewed concern for our community”.

The gunman opened fire inside a lecture hall in the engineering facility on Saturday afternoon, firing more than 40 rounds from a 9mm handgun, a police source reported to the media outlet.

Law enforcement that searched the hotel seized two handguns and magazines when the suspect was detained, the news agency reported.

Condition of the Injured

Among those wounded, one student was released from the hospital, stated Christina Paxson, Christina Paxson. Seven more were in serious yet stable state, and one was in critical condition, police said on Sunday.

An educational institution, a independent school in North Carolina, said a recent graduate, Kendall Turner, was among those critically wounded.

More Condolences

Cook was remembered at a memorial in Birmingham on Sunday. A pastor commented, “She shone as a remarkable, stable, devout beacon not only during her upbringing... but at Brown she was a shining example in that specific location as well.”

Martin Bertao, Martin Bertao, posted a statement from the club. “Ella was known for her fearless, heroic, and gentle spirit as she served her chapter and peers,” he said.

An American diplomat, Jonathan Henick, said he was “extremely sorrowful” by the student's death in a message. “Our profound condolences go out to his relatives, friends, and peers and lament the passing of his promising future.”

The weekend's murders at Brown, the seventh oldest in the US university with about over seven thousand undergraduate and postgraduate students, occurred during one of at least 392 shooting incidents reported in the US so far in the current year, according to records. Monday was the 349th day of the year.
